Residential Oil Burners, Third Edition is dedicated to the training of entry-level oil burner technicians. This is not a homeowner’s do-it-yourself book. It is intended for use in conjunction with either a trade apprenticeship pro-gram or a vocational program at the secondary or post-secondary level that includes a “hands-on” shop experience under the guidance of a qualified teacher.

This book is based on my 25 years of personal experi-ence working as an oil burner service and installation me-chanic in and around New York City. Added to that are 17 years of teaching experience in a variety of programs, some of which are listed below. My thanks go out to the equipment manufacturers, teachers, and oil burner techni-cians who have contributed to this work. They have kept me up-to-date on what is happening in our industry. My fondest wish is that this text becomes a part of every service technician’s equipment.
